Joy of Mowing decided to research these companies and share some facts about some of our favorite vintage lawn mower brands.

Craftsman

Founded in 1921 by Charles H Pugh, ATCO manufactured the first mass produced petrol lawnmowers at their factory in Birmingham, UK.
Bolens
Bolens was started in 1850 by Harry Bolens and John Gilson in Port Washington, Wisconsin as the J.E. Gilson/ H.W. Bolens Manufacturing Co originally.
Ford Lawn and Garden Tractors
Ford provided a range of lawn and garden tractors to their farm machinery dealers, although Ford did not build their own lawn equipment
Porter-Cable Mowers
In the late 1950s, Porter Cable started a garden tractor division. Porter Cable sold off their lawn and garden line in 1960.
