In 1978, Donald and Lucy Smith moved to Florida from England with their two sons, Simon and Toby. They purchased a small equipment dealership called Les Ray Bobcat, where their sons went to work with them shortly after. In 1986 the company name was changed to Smith Bros. Contracting Equipment Inc. to represent the multiple brands the company provided.
Other changes over the decades include facility, product and staff expansions. Some of the challenges faced by the company include striving through down-cycle years in the construction industry, recovering from post-hurricane damages and mourning the loss of a beloved leader, Donald, in 1993.
However, through these challenges, the company has continued to grow under the leadership of Lucy, Simon and Toby Smith. Today Smith Bros. Contracting Equipment is comprised of a four-dealership network and a multi-million dollar inventory of equipment and parts.
