Our History
A group of determined and dedicated Lawrence County farmers got together in 1946 to form what was to become Lawrence Farmers Cooperative. The 1946 incorporating directors were J.O. Thomas, Chester Venable, Ralph O’Conner, E.S. Heatherly, W.W. Pettus, John Kelly, W.H. Hyde, Charles C. Lehnert, Sam Smith, Rex Morrison and Robert Plunkett. Over the years, the cooperative rented, leased, and purchased property in both Leoma, Lawrenceburg, and St. Joseph to serve as store locations, warehouses, and storage.
The first store was located in Leoma and a second location was opened in 1959 at 1007 North Military in Lawrenceburg, which served as the main store beginning in 1962. In 1966, the Co-op purchased land from Murray Ohio Manufacturing where they would build a bulk fertilizer building and install scales. They also purchased a spreader truck at that time. The next year, they set up a grain-buying station at the North Military location and in 1968 purchased a bulk feed truck for farm delivery.
