J.P. O’Connor Hardware, Inc

Jeremiah P. O’Connor established O’Connor Hardware and Rental in 1954 in a modest 1,500 square foot shop in Billerica Center. O’Connor Hardware and Rental joined Cotter and Company (TrueValue), a buying organization with headquarters in Chicago, in 1969. The store relocated to a new 12,500 square foot site on Tower Farm Rd., less than a mile from the old location, in 1973.
In 1978 and again in the 1980s, this location was enlarged, adding a total of 25,000 square feet. O’Connor Hardware and Rental had expanded at this time to become one of New England’s biggest TrueValue hardware chains.
