Since 1936, Ace Hardware & Garden Center has been a family-owned and operated business. George W. Jelinek established Grand Island Hardware Company on Fourth Street that year. In 1960, the company merged with Ace Hardware and was incorporated the following year. In 1963, the company relocated to its current home at 3rd and Broadwell, and in 1979, it expanded to 30,000 square feet. The Fremont store was acquired in 1986 by President Donald L. Jelinek, the Columbus store in 1992, and the Kearney store in 1998. The sixth store in Elkhorn opened in 2013. Today, Randy, Ron Jelinek, and Cheryl Hansen, along with an experienced crew, maintain the legacy of providing friendly service and a wide range of products.
