For over 70 years, we have been growing and nurturing Begick Nursery and Garden Center. From a small landscaping business that started back in 1950 to the expansive garden center you see today, the Begick family has taken care of all the Saginaw Valley area’s lawn and garden needs.
Back in 1950, brothers Vernon (Jim) and Lester Begick, a registered landscape architect, started a small landscape operation on Westside Saginaw Road selling nursery plants. The brothers got the idea for the business from experiences they had on the farm owned by their parents, Paul J.C., and Lydia Begick. They raised cows and chickens on the farm and Paul started growing spruce trees to be used as windbreaks. Lydia started a hobby farm, growing and selling gladiolas and cut flowers. This same farm is now where we grow some of our shade trees. Jim and Lester’s younger brother, Paul, joined the business in 1959 after graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in horticulture. Paul served as Vice President and eventually President of the business until his passing in March 2021.
